That top piece is the under-collar, just outlined to save on bulk and to provide a little bit of contrast. The front facings will be the same. This coat/jacket is put together so that the fronts will show most of the time, not the facings (unlike a suit jacket), so I'm fine with the less detailed version being on the facing.
I'm not adding pockets - I could still get some into the side seams, but then they'd show on the inside. I like the idea of the inside of this garment just showing all the AC work and knots and seams. I still think I'll serge them all and then topstitch by hand. I need to find some big snaps to use as closures.
