Last fall one of my plans was for a bias-cut plaid dress in two or three colors, out of a reasonably nice lawn that I found at fabric.com. I wanted to use Butterick 6016, and I also got a nice black lawn for lining. However, for a twist, I decided to try and make the whole thing reversible!
Butterick 6016 actually has center front and back seams - I chose to keep those and just straightened out a little bit at one area and cut VERY carefully. I even hand basted this one.
Front:
Other notes- of course, the zipper was a bit of a struggle. I attached it to the colored side and whip-stitched it on the black side. So, when wearing the black, it looks a bit like an exposed zipper treatment. I also catch-stitched the two layers together at the waist seam, but otherwise kept them completely separate apart from the armhole/neckline.
Inside out, here is the dress:
You can see the plaid through the black a little bit, so I decided to cut the hems so that the blue definitely showed instead of looking like an accident. It still might all look a teensy bit accidental. I've been wearing it with a belt, although something other than the big plasticy one I've got there would be preferable. The waistline is about one inch too high. Boots aren't a great match, but it is winter here! I was just psyched to wear no tights for a day. I did wear a black cardigan, though, so I had a bit of a ninja look.
And the back - showing me that age may be catching up a bit. Stand up straight and do some more tricep presses! Or, really, ANY tricep presses....
