I'm in for SWAP 2017 this year, and am quite excited about it.
We just got back from winter
vacation trips all over the country and I ordered some plain cotton
jersey and dyes from Dharma trading compant, and a badger airbrush!
My goal is to destash
somewhat, but also dive headlong into my new love affair with
embellishing jersey. I
also need motivation to do the following:
1: Adjust the crotch line on the Jalie jeans pattern, which already makes up 90% of my trouser wardrobe (ouch!)
2: Get a really, really good pencil skirt block
Accordingly,
two of my repeat patterns are the Jalie jeans, and skirt block. In my
wardrobe I also *need* more casual (washable) suit pieces, particularly
jackets that I can wear in my university setting, and a really nice
simple blouse or cami that I can wear with them. I'm imagining making
the suit pieces out of a nice denim or cotton twill rather than wool or
poly. In my wardrobe I *want* more embellished Alabama Chanin-style
pieces. So, I am dividing my SWAP into two sections: one for more
casual but still work-appropriate pieces, and a more suiting-focused
section.
Letters in parenthesis correspond to patterns used (A-H, for counting)
AC group (5 pieces)
Uppers: Sleeveless top (A), 3/4 sleeve top (A)
Lowers: A-line skirt (B), Jalie jeans, stretch denim (C)
Overs: Jacket, Simplicity 2508 (D)
Suiting group (6 pieces)
Uppers: Plaid blouse (E), Cami or blouse w/ suit (F)
Lowers: Jalie jeans, stretch twill (D), Corduroy skirt (G) Suit Skirt, twill/denim (G)
Overs: Suit jacket (H)
For
my suiting uppers, the two blouses could end up being the same
pattern. I'm seeking a non-button-front blouse that I can tuck in.
Keyhole neck or something along those lines. In the AC group, the jeans
won't be AC-style, but the rest will all be embellished, double-layer
cotton knit. The AC tops will be variations on the high-neck t-shirt top, since I'd like to get a good version of that as a TNT.
I'll try and make all of the colors and fabrics work together. I'm definitely tired of having storebought poly tops that don't look right with my natural fiber bottoms, and vice versa. But I also have some poly flannel gabardine in neutral browns that would be great for some of the Jalie bottoms. I'll pull it out and look at it to see if it's a good candidate for the suit. For that, I want to do something that I can't get in a store- perhaps a great forest green or deep red. And nothing that requires dry-cleaning!
