I'm officially done with the satin component of my SWAP! Okay, perhaps not entirely - I haven't cut out the lining for the jacket yet and that may end up being either some of the satin or rayon twill that is in my stash.
I cut this out yesterday, but then sewed the whole thing on and off during bits of time that I had during the day. Considering that we also packed church, food shopping, lunch out, a little bit of skiing in the back yard and then a playdate over at a friend's house, I'm pleased with how little time this took!
I went with New Look 6161 again, but without the pleated front this time. I did all seams as french seams again, except for the armholes and center back (cb seam allowances folded and topstitched). This time I did leave the neck binding out, and whipstitched the inner edge by hand to make it neat. And I used the hem treatment I've seen in various Vogues, where you fold once, stitch, trim, fold again, stitch, and then do a final fold and topstitch. It's kind of nice since you don't really have to press, as long as you are careful with the widths. It looks a teensy stretched out this time, so we'll see how it looks after washing.
Big change is the sleeves. I added sleeves with a cuff and a bit of a bell at the bottom. I took some time with the cuffs, since, well, satin. So far I am happy with how they turned out, but I haven't worn it yet!
Again, I didn't put in a side zipper. I pinned and pulled it over my head before sewing that last side seam. It's not too snug, and the drapey satin is nice. I added about an inch to the hem as well.
