My yard of green silk crepe showed up in the mail and I just had to play with it. I'm making another copy of my shell from SWAP, but without the pleats in front. And I wanted to address this issue:
For these satin tops, I've been folding the seam allowances in on themselves along that back seam and then topstitching. Makes a very nice finish from the inside (other seams are french seams), but there is just a lot of puckering along the seam where I topstitch. That's with sharp needles, and after me playing with tension a bunch.
So, for the silk, I decided to try something new. I'm still folding the raw edge of the seam allowance under itself so that it is contained and won't fray, but I'm securing it with a running stitch on each sie of the seam instead of machine stitching. I've done one side and, so far, I really like it! Pictures to come.
Here's another pic of how it looked on my other satin top. Lots of puckers.
