I miss challenges! So....

My self-imposed exile from stitcher's guild has left me feeling kind of lonely on the sewing front, and I definitely miss the camaraderie of working towards goals.  On the other hand, I'll be gone for at least a month this summer and so at least some of my work will have to be small, packable and machine-less.

One thing I've been eying for some time is the following vintage dress pattern.  I'm definitely not buying the pattern (sells for $150+).  It's a Guy Laroche pattern from Vogue Paris Originals (1554), from the 1960's.

It has a bias-cut collar and a gathered drape piece across the front and back.  I think it's out of a woven, something with a little body but still a good amount of drape.    I don't see any darts in the little bit of a technical drawing on the under-sheath, but they may be fisheye darts that are just covered by the drape.  Oooh - edited to note that I found an ebay seller who has a digital scan of the size I need.  It would still be a good exercise to do it myself, though!

I think I can do this.  It's basically just a sheath dress with cut-in shoulders and a drape piece where the fullness is all at the top.  I'm going to cut into my old cotton sheet muslin fabric again to get the fit and approximate drape right, and then I'll start trying to find a good fabric.

  1. Stitchers Guild seems to have calmed down, why not come back and just ignore the whole Chatter area, that's what I do. If I don't read the stuff in the first place it can't upset me.
There's not much happening over there, SWAP still not up which is kinda wierd. There are some sew alongs, one for tees, another for dresses and a third for jackets and kimonos.

  2. That's good advice - I think I'll plan on rejoining at the end of the summer after all the travel I have coming up. I think that what set me off was that the thread that upset me WAS in a garment discussion section - a thread discussing underwear and things like that. The poster in question just decided that this would be a good place to go off on Obama. I hadn't been into any of the chatter threads since the early post-election days when I was happy to see that there was a mix of political views.
