I did get that dress done! She wouldn't let me hem it very high, but it should fit her well this Christmas!
The black dress is purchased from Target. She's just teasing me - she had a great day and smiled a lot! Mimi felt like a princess in her giant, voluminous flannel skirt and satin blouse.
On actual SWAP sewing, I finally put together the final suiting skirt, that matches the jacket. For some reason (stretchy fabric? Cutting error?) I had to take it in a ton at the side seams, by about 1/2 an inch uniformly all the way to the hem on each side. But it seems to have turned out okay otherwise. I need to stitch the lining to the zipper and hem it. I worked on it about half an hour tonight and had some extra time, but decided to stop before I got tired and started making mistakes.
Notes - I serged all pieces since the lining and suiting fabric were both very fray-able. The suiting fabric was quite stretchy - perhaps that is why my sizing was so off.
